Therapies
After reading the section in the book about psychotherapy, I have formed an opinion about which form of therapy I think would be the most helpful. In my opinion, the best way that we can treat psychological problems is with biomedical therapy.I see insight therapies and behavioral therapies to work only on some people but not on others. Insight therapy might be better for people with a less severe problem because it involves simply talking about your problems. Behavioral therapy seems like it would only work if the client was willing to get rid of their fear. The most common type of behavioral therapy is aversion therapy, and I think if the client was unwilling to get rid of their fear, they will just be more afraid because of the aversion therapy. Biomedical therapy is pretty much guarenteed to work on everybody because the pharmacuatical drugs used can be altered to fit everybody's body and illness.

I also agree about what is said when it comes to therapies and that one of the most helpful would be biomedical. However, at the same time, I also really believe insight therapy could be really helpful depending on the person receiving the therapy. For many people, feeling comfortable enough to talk to someone about their problems may really help. As stated though, for a severe problem I do not know how helpful that could be. Also, I believe aversion therapy is simply putting a fear to the side. I do believe biomedical therapy could be the best, but also believe insight could be very helpful for many, especially if they are someone who just needs to get something out and talk about it to someone they can trust, or to someone where they believe it will be confidential.
ReplyDeleteafter read the piece on pyscho-therapy i too believe that behavioral therapy would only work on people who want to face their fears to get rid of them. reason being is that a many people find a comfort zone in avoiding there fears. for example people who are afraid of elevators, simply take the stairs to the destination. once people find a comfort zone, the odds of them wanting to leave this homeostatic way is very slim.
