Claustrophobic

During a concert that I recently attended I witnessed a person that seemed to be claustrophobic and they began to freak out as people began to swarm around them. This lead me to think of a friend that I had when I was younger who went to therapy for it. He overcame his fear and his therapist from what I understood slowly would increase the number of people in the room with him. He would do this to help him conquer his fear. He also had him say things in his head to calm himself down. This is a great example of how therapy can help a person to overcome there fears.

  1. One of my friends had a similar problem with Claustrophobia. He would have anxiety attacks any time he began to feel like he was being crowded. I remember one time we took a class trip to a naval museum and there was a submarine on exhibit that we were able to go inside. As soon as we got inside, he became extremely nervous. There was not much room at all inside and most of our class was surrounding him. After this experience, he decided to go to consoling for it. The therapist used a comparable strategy where he slowly brought more people into the small room with him. After a while, he began to become more comfortable with small spaces and he eventually lost his phobia.
