PTSD Treatment
Also in class today, we watched a second video on PTSD treatments for men who experienced this disorder after returning from war. I had noticed that the treatment was basically the same as typical treatments for OCD: exposure therapy. Like OCD sufferers are often exposed to and forced to face what causes them to do their typical rituals to get rid of their anxiety, these PTSD treatment patients are exposed to their traumatic experiences that they suffered through while at war. Clearly exposure can be used for a variety of different treatments for different disorders, and I believe that it is an extremely successful treatment.

I agree that this seems to be an efficient method to help PTSD. I think the reason it is so effective is because once someone confronts their fear they can then put it in perspective. For instance, if you are afraid of traveling in cars because someone you know was once killed in a car accident, you might avoid all transportation by car as much as possible. Through the help of therapy, it would be helpful to gradually increase your exposure to traveling in cars. This therapy can help you rationalize that even though accidents can happen, they do not happen to everyone. Facing your fear can relieve your anixety to an extent and help you continue on with your life instead of being crippled by phobias or fear.
