As the end of the semester rapidly approaches many college students are faced with high levels of anxiety. For many students it is time to cram and prepare themselves for the tests that basically determine their grades. Student scope with the stress in different ways some of which we unfortunately hear about through the news. I have a few friends at Cornell that were talking to me about students committing suicide because of the stress and anxiety of the approaching exam week. It’s really unfortunate that schoolwork and peoples grades can cause so much stress that they can cause people to take their own lives. I am not trying to undermine the importance of academics but its scary that students will let their anxiety levels reach such extremes. Preparing in advance although difficult to do may help reduce stress and anxiety. Meeting with on campus psychologists may also be an effective tool during exam week to limit stress. There are many healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety, and students suffering from large amounts of anxiety may need to look into these options so that such tragedies can be minimized.
At the end of each semester, I notice the same thing as well. Although I haven't experienced anything so serious, there have been times where friends stress out so terribly that they are like competely different people. For the most part, I have always been able to keep myself away from this stress and anxiety. Although i may feel a little axiety, I usually don't let it get the best of me. However, at the same time, I feel like the key to avoiding stress is by working hard throughout the semester. If one works hard throughout the semester and goes into a final exam with a solid grade, they know that they will be able to do well on that test, and if by chance they don't they still have the good grade going into it. For the most part that has been my outlook and a main reason I keep myself from getting to nervous or anxious.
